Spring Step's L'Artiste line leans decorative — hand-painted and tooled leathers on a conventional comfort footbed. Leather stretches across the width over the first few weeks and barely at all in length. Buy for length, let width settle.
Cushioning absorbs impact, which helps if you walk a lot and helps less if you stand still. Standing rewards even pressure distribution over softness.
The open heel vents heat and comes off without bending down. It also means the shoe is held by your instep, not your heel — if you are curling your toes to keep it on, it is too big.
