What to know about this mule
KEEN builds a wider toe box than almost anyone in this category, which is the main reason people with splayed forefeet end up here. Napped leather like this dusts rather than scuffs. A suede brush along the nap restores it; water does not.
The open heel vents heat and comes off without bending down. It also means the shoe is held by your instep, not your heel — if you are curling your toes to keep it on, it is too big. A cold-weather clog. Lined uppers run warmer than they look, and are better indoors and on short outdoor trips than on long walks.
Leave about a centimetre in front of your longest toe, and check that your foot is not spilling over the sides of the footbed — that is a width problem, not a length one.
Leather needs roughly a day to release the moisture it absorbed from your foot. Two pairs alternated each last more than twice as long as one worn daily.
