What to know about this clog
Mephisto hand-assembles its uppers and uses a shock-absorbing heel insert, which is a quieter, softer take on the same problem Dansko solves with rigidity. Leather stretches across the width over the first few weeks and barely at all in length. Buy for length, let width settle.
Cork wants sealing once or twice a year at the exposed rim. Untreated, it dries and crumbles at the edges; sealed, it lasts as long as the shoe.
The buckle is what makes this workable on a high instep. Anything with a fixed vamp will press across the top of the foot and will not stretch enough to fix it. A cold-weather clog. Lined uppers run warmer than they look, and are better indoors and on short outdoor trips than on long walks.
