What to know about this mule
CUSHIONAIRE builds a cork-style footbed at a lower price than the European makers, with the trade being less consistent sizing across models. Suede is soft from the first wear because there is no surface finish to break in — and no surface finish to protect it either. A protector spray from day one is not optional.
Memory foam feels best on day one and slowly worse after that, because the foam takes a permanent set. Excellent for occasional wear, less so for daily shifts.
A closed back holds the heel, which steadies it on stairs and satisfies the dress codes that specify an enclosed shoe. A cold-weather clog. Lined uppers run warmer than they look, and are better indoors and on short outdoor trips than on long walks.
Most of these are built on EU lasts and converted inconsistently to US sizing. Where you can, work from the EU number.
Keep them away from radiators and direct sun. Heat is what cracks leather uppers and delaminates soles, not water.
